So, I had dinner with friends at Maison Fournaisse. It is a restaurant by Chatou, France where Renoir painted. I spent 10 days in France and one of the things my friend and I did was to go to the Renoir museum in Chatou, France on the outskirts of Paris. Renoir painted in Impressionism style which was new at the time. Also, he painted outside where other artists painted in “salons” inside. This was a new concept and not widely accepted at the time. Renoir was one of those “starving artists” that you hear about. He painted there in Chatou by the river near the restaurant Maison Fournaise.
Renoir was friends with this Fournaise family who owned a restaurant. Other artists also gathered there to paint and talk and drink. The Fournaise family supported the impressionist artists that painted there.
We at at this restaurant, the Maison Fournaise. It was a beautiful environment with copies of Renoir’s works on the wall and a lovely menu.
I was so excited to eat at the restaurant where Renoir used to hang out. It’s been renovated and I think it has a new owner. We had a WONDERFUL evening here!
